Do some managers consistently buy shares for more than they are worth? If so, do they make money in the long term? Reply15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]
valueinvestor123 & Jake2 - please visit my blog and read a few posts before making such statements.Fox - I simply picked 10 funds that have historically been considered value investors - and I define that as buying something for less than it is worth.
User 164258 - you are correct and the glitch is fixed on my blog. . .

I guess I am dumb like you. I think seeing what some pretty bright people are buying and selling is a pretty good place to get ideas to do my own research. It also provides a good benchmark to compare to my own portfolio. You should do some further research on whether Buffett sold COP. I saw another post that he, in fact, got an expemption from the SEC to not report is position in that stock. Therefore, it simply droppped from the list and not sold. Given that COP is pretty cheap compared to the rest and that he and Gates were up in Canada looking at oil sands, it seems unlikely that he just punched out of this position in one quarter Reply

I don't see much "value" in this kind of blanket value listing. Would prefer something more akin to e-valu-ating individual stocks, industries, etc., rather than, "Wither the hedge herd, mate?". Reply15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]
I would like to know how you define "value" in the context that you are using it. I see one of the funds you mention has a position in First Solar. Reply15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]

Who really thinks Nvidia has some technological lead over AMD or INTEL? Thats just funny. Both AMD and INTEL have loads more technology than Nvidia, which is why NVDA is in trouble. Nvidias technology right now was to throw as many circuits on a die as possible which makes the die larger, fewer on a wafer, lower yields/reliability from the ones that survive. Nvidia has been lucky that software programmers favored their architecture and drivers. Nvidia is a good company but I wouldnt say they have any technology edge in the semiconductor business. The only reason they have grown this large is the absence of competition because they bought them all out in the 90s or they were competing with Intel or VIA who dont care about graphics, and then ATI showed up and gave the world better products and competition to Nvidia. Retail on a Tear - Fast Money Recap (8/11/08) [view article]
Today K+S AG a European specialty fertilizer supplier reported fantastic earnings. They more than quadrupled the year ago quarter. This may be the impetus to turn around the POT, MOS, and AGU trades. They moved to the upside yesterday when the dollar weakened. However, they are continuing to move up today even with a relatively strong dollar. Grain futures are up today. Oil futures are up slightly. Things are boding very well for POT et al. ReplyThursday Options Outlook: XLE, WB, MRVL, NUE, HSY, COF, F [view article]

I fully expect the SOXX to recover over the next 36 months. The opportunity found in SNDK and NVDA are once decade opportunities. The opportunity in AMD if it can make itself right is one in an investors lifetime. ReplyMarvell Tech: Color on RIMM Chatter [view article]
People... come on. The fact that RIM is dipping its toes in lower end markets, out of its traditional area of high-end devices means it's just doing what it takes to break into more consumer markets and diversify the product portfolio. It would make no sense for RIM to use a powerful MRVL processor in a lower end phone. Think of it like this: Freescale processor = Motorola RAZR type phone. MRVL's more powerful applications processors are required for RIM's PDA-like functions and numerous applications the platform supports. Only if RIM's whole product portfolio goes downmarket should investors be concerned here. I don't see that happening. The entry to lower end is most likely part of a brand building initiative. Reply
